About Us

Our Story

Wellspring Support is a CARF-accredited organization providing community inclusion services for adults with diverse abilities. We offer comprehensive programs tailored to fit the individual needs and healthcare plans of our participants, including providing support with mobility, individualized communication, and personal care.

People come first at Wellspring. We make it a priority to get to know each individual’s personality, preferences, needs and interests as we assist in the process of developing their individualized plans. This up-front work allows us to tailor our environment to best suit each participant and ensure that we start out together on a path that leads towards each person’s desired outcomes.

Our staff members value supporting participants in making choices and developing personalized service plans, which empowers them to achieve their own unique goals.

Our History

Wellspring celebrates a journey from grass roots beginnings to becoming a respected, comprehensive service provider in the Victoria region.

We trace our beginnings back to early 2007 when we operated exclusively as a community inclusion team working with individuals in their homes, and spending time with them ‘out and about’ in the community. We loved seeing the growth, kinship and bonding that we facilitated between our program participants and their friends, but we lamented the fact that Victoria lacked a comfortable, convenient, fun and accessible drop-in centre for individuals with diverse abilities to gather.

What was needed was an environment where we could design fun, engaging, and uplifting activities for those in need of complex supports; a dedicated gathering place for individuals to meet up to enjoy and support one another before heading out into the community to start their day’s adventure. We needed a place where people could make friends, expand networks, socialize, and learn, all while receiving the sort of high quality, personalized attention and support that Wellspring has become known for.

When opportunity arose, we decided to step up and fill the void for the individuals that we supported. We worked to locate an appropriate site in the summer of 2007, negotiated a lease, coordinated with CLBC to secure funding, and opened the doors of our original Jutland Campus to our participants for the first time in January, 2008.

Then – in order to better support CLBC-funded individuals living in the rapidly-growing Western Communities – we opened a second location in Langford in 2013. Our centres are equipped with a variety of supplies, adaptive equipment, and the kind of up-to-date technology required to promote safe and comfortable support and personal care.

Today, we have grown not only in size, but in capability as well.

We are continually expanding and strengthening our skill sets to help us provide for a broader range of individuals, and today we support over 30 people who make use of our Community Inclusion, Before and After Program, and Supported Independent Living services.

Our People & Our Culture

At Wellspring, we understand that our service is only as good as the people who deliver it. We take pride in the fact that our staff share a strong commitment to provide safe, high quality, engaging support for our participants. Our staff have varied training and experiential backgrounds, with many having formal training such as RCA, CSW, HCA, or BSW. As a team we have decades of hands-on, practical experience supporting people living with diverse abilities.

The Wellspring family is proud to have successfully completed the CARF International accreditation process in the Fall of 2015 as well as recertification in the fall of 2018. As a CARF accredited organization we adhere to the very highest industry standards of our field, and routinely undergo compliance verification with the granting authority to maintain our accredited status.

Wellspring cultivates a culture of acceptance that honours every individual’s uniqueness, whether that be a program participant, a staff member, or any person in our participants’ support networks. We work actively, daily, and deliberately to ensure that we maintain the healthy climate that we have developed where all feel welcome, supported, included, and valued. This commitment is reflected in the flexibility of the services we offer, which are designed to facilitate growth, learning, and steady progress toward the IPP planning goals that our individuals set for themselves each year.
